UVA

2009
charlottesville, virginia

my friends and i went to our five-year college reunion at UVA in june 2009. i hadn't been back there since 2005, and it was familiar yet different, as was expected. some of the restaurants had changed ownership or closed, an urban outfitters took over a jewish sandwich shop downtown (fucking capitalism), our fourth-year apartment had been torn down, etc. but the campus itself (our school, being pretentious, calls it the "grounds" or "academic village") remained remarkably unchanged, which i appreciated.

UVA, founded by thomas jefferson, has one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. i probably took that for granted when i was at school there, but i recognize and am proud of it now. i like this picture because it gives me a feeling of serenity, and also because i like how the picture almost looks crooked because of the sloping grounds, but you can tell it isn't because of the path, colonial building in the background and the uprightness of the trees.
