watercolor on strathmore cold press
14.5" x 11"
i first learned how to paint with watercolors when i was six, but they proved too difficult for me to handle at such a young age—i mean, they're pretty fucking hard at first. so i changed mediums several times—pastels, charcoal, acrylics—before returning to watercolors several years later. this is one of those pieces i truly felt was a breakthrough in my work; and though it's not that great, i thought it was rather stupendous at the time. it was the first watercolor painting i ever did that i felt looked relatively realistic. after this painting, my skills became far more honed than they had been, and i went on to create better and better works.
