meteor shower

2003
watercolor on arches cold press
8" x 15.5"

another piece in the abstract watercolor series, this painting was produced with a frenzy of dissolving salt. salt, when applied to wet watercolor, creates those white spots that, in this case, look like stars or fireworks or a meteor shower—at least to me they did, hence the title. i like strong, bright colors (if you haven't noticed already) so this piece was made with a lot of ultramarine blue, cadmium red and that sap green at the bottom. i think i have a bit of a problem subduing my paintings even now—i tend to shy away from quieter earth tones, which, i guess makes sense since my personality is more colorful and bright than subdued.
