embrace

embrace

2003
charcoal on paper
18" x 24"

there is no story behind this piece. it is simply my depiction of the connection between two individuals sharing an embrace, since hugs, when sincere, are demonstrative of the strongest of human emotions. to open your arms to someone is to accept everything about them, to bare yourself to the possibility of rejection, to make yourself vulnerable. to fold your arms around someone is to love them, to cherish them, whether they be your friend, your relative, your lover, or even a stranger in need. hugs are a brief hiatus from all the sham and disappointment that exist in the world as you reach a quiet understanding with another person and realize that you are not alone. there's solace in an embrace.
