as i tell you in the description of "matches", my sister went to capri and brought me a box of matches with a painted ceramic tile on it. this piece serves as the space behind the object, which is figuratively capri itself. this painting was my first experimental egg tempera + permanent marker painting and it was done on used canvas. i had stretched this canvas in high school and painted an overturned jar with a butterfly escaping from it lying in the grass. since it was pretty hideous, i went over the acrylic paint with permanent marker and egg tempera and this painting was the result. i learned that canvas is actually a rather poor material to be painted on with egg tempera, but i'm glad i did it nevertheless because i think it's kinda interesting.
