minotaur body
2001
magazine cut-outs, gel medium & permanent marker on bristol board
24" x 19"
i hadn't done collage in two years when i made this piece. i was tired of drawing and wanted to astonish my class during critique with something they'd never seen before. obviously there's quite a difference between this piece and "minotaur hands"; i wanted to vivify certain parts of the minotaur and subdue others. this body, composed of different pieces of cut-out flesh from magazines, is more in-your-face than "minotaur hands" because it forces the viewer to acknowledge the minotaur as at least partly human. since you can't see the head, this could be the torso of anyone. i guess since it's also made up of so many different people's skins, the message is that this is anyone. we're all like the minotaur sometimes.
