what i recall about this painting is how effortless it was to paint—after years of struggling with painting leaves in watercolor. i enjoyed using the undiluted crimson paint, too. i think, after this, painting became easier for me, as i gained more confidence in my abilities. years later, when i was in my fourth year at UVA, my roommate ellen (a fellow artist) asked if she could have it, and i gave it to her in exchange for one of her abstract oil works.
